In Loving Memory of
Antonia Stachyshyn
A private funeral service will be held.
Antonia Stachyshyn passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on February 16, 2022 at the Yorkton Union Hospital, Yorkton, SK.
Antonia Stella Stachyshyn (nee Luchyshyn) was born on August 3, 1938 at the house of her parents, Ludwig and Eva Luchyshyn, on the farm about 24 miles south of Foam Lake, SK.
Antonia got her grade one to grade eight education at the Winthorpe School, one mile from their home, where she would always walk. She did various jobs from babysitting, milking cows, and helping with household chores.
At 18 years old she moved to Foam Lake and worked at the Rex Café for 56 cents an hour, working 12-hour days and weekends. She worked there for four years.
On July 2, 1966 she was united in marriage to Matt Stachyshyn. They were a month away from their 50th wedding anniversary when Matt passed away in 2016. Matt and Antonia were blessed with one daughter, Linda, born in April of 1967. They grain farmed three quarters of land 21 miles south of Foam Lake. Antonia stayed at home as a housewife and took care of their daughter.
Antonia’s daughter was united in marriage on September 26, 1987 to Brian Beatty. This union blessed her with two grandchildren: Allison born in 1994 and Matthew in 1999.
She enjoyed baking, gardening, crocheting, and was especially happy when her grandchildren came to visit. She would spoil them with chocolate chip cookies and perogies; they still say that Baba’s perogies are the best as they were made with love.
Matt and Antonia sold their house in 2009 and moved to the Tiger Lily. Because of health issues and Matt not being able to care for her needs, Antonia moved permanently to the Foam Lake Jubilee Home.
Antonia is survived by her loving daughter Linda (Brian) Beatty of Regina, SK; granddaughter Allison (Brandon) of Moose Jaw, SK; grandson Matthew of Calgary, AB; brother Mike Luchyshyn of Foam Lake, SK; sisters Mary Stachyshyn of Humboldt, SK, Sophie Serelo of White Rock, BC, Ann (Allan) Kereluik of Sheho, SK and Rose Melnychuk of Foam Lake, SK as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Matt, parents Ludwig and Eva, mother and father-in-law Walter and Nellie and various brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Foam Lake Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church or the Foam Lake Jubilee Home would be appreciated.
