Audrey Hopkins

January 12, 1927 — August 24, 2022

Audrey Bernice Hopkins passed away on August 24, 2022 surrounded by her family.  As with most things in life, Mom had a plan and left on her own terms, choosing to use Medical Assistance in Dying to end her life.

Audrey was born January 12, 1927 in Lintlaw, SK.  Her childhood was spent there until her family moved to Regina.  She was in the first class of Certified Nurse’s Aides in Saskatchewan in 1947.  She married Stan Hopkins in 1948 and as his career in the tire business progressed, they lived in Alberta, Ontario, and Saskatchewan.   Stan and Audrey started Hopkins Tire Service in 1970.  This was a dream come true for them.  They have many friends from their staff, clients, and suppliers.

With each move she found a new church community which provided her with new friendships and opportunities to offer up her talents.  She sewed new choir robes for many churches, did needlepoint covers for kneelers, worked in bake sales, and dedicated time to the new-to-you boutique in Saskatoon.  Her many years spent at Luther Tower brought more friendships that were lifelong.

The cabin at Greenwater Lake was always a place where family and friends were happy to stop by for campfires, food, and a visit!  Their door was always open!

Stan and Audrey enjoyed a wonderful retirement with many winters in Indio, CA and trips to locations around the world.  For two “small town Saskatchewan kids” their love for travel was inspiring!

Audrey was predeceased by her husband Stan in 2012.  Left to cherish her memory are her children Stanley (Mary), Allan (Marlene) and Shirlinell (Daryl); her grandchildren Dale, Ian, Cole, Zachary, Ward and Erin; and her great grandchildren Tessa, Florence, Walter, Isabel, and Emma.

Honorary pall bearers are her nephews:  Allen, Garth, and David Weinhandl, and her friends Ken Schmidt, Sandy Stafford and Monty Stafford.

A funeral celebration of Audrey’s life will be held at Emmanuel Anglican Church in Saskatoon on Thursday September 1, 2022 at 2:00PM with a reception to follow. An interment will be held at the Maple Creek Cemetery on Wednesday September 7 at 1:00PM.

Memorial donations may be made to Emanuel Anglican Church, or the Sunnyside Adventist Care Centre.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Tompkins Funeral Home in Wadena.
