It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barry James Kayseas at the age of 65. Barry was born on May 31, 1960, in Wadena, Saskatchewan. He passed surrounded by his loving family on October 17, 2025, in Calgary, Alberta.
He is predeceased by his late parents, Florence and Jerry Kayseas; late grandparents, Mark and Violet Desjarlais; late Marjorie and Henry Kayseas; late brother, Harvey Kayseas; and a late child lost in infancy.
He is survived by his daughters, Jenine, Niki, Cheyenne (Amy), Florence (Ridhit), Kelly Dawn, and his special niece, Melissa. He is also survived by his grandsons, James and Ryan, and seven grandpups. His siblings include Gwen (Mike), Brenda (Bob), Sharon, Bob (Marlene), Don (Verna), Rhonda, and his adopted brother, Ross Cadotte (Sharon). Numerous friends, sweat lodge family, and other family members also mourn his loss.
Barry loved spending time with his children and grandchildren; they were his pride and joy. He would always beam with pride whenever he mentioned his daughters, grandsons, and grandpups. He was endlessly proud of their accomplishments.
Throughout his life, Barry was a very hard worker. From the young age of 4, he began working with his parents around the house. He was a master third-generation carpenter, drywaller, and taper—an all-around very creative and active person who took pride in his work. He was known for his carpentry skills and was often found spending countless hours on job sites across Saskatchewan and Alberta. An avid artist, he was talented in drawing, sketching, and painting as hobbies.
Barry was a kind, loving, and caring person who would help everyone and anyone in any way possible. He never asked for anything in return—that was just who he was. He offered help, prayers, guidance, and support to anyone in need.
He loved to joke and tease people. If you spent time with him, you would find him joking, laughing, and teasing everyone. He was a storyteller with a great sense of humor. A traditional spirit, he carried strength, prayer, and guidance throughout his life daily. He instilled the importance of prayer, culture, and humility in his children, friends, and family.
Barry’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the blessing of knowing him. His love, laughter, and teachings will continue to guide his family for generations to come. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the same love he gave so freely in life.
