Bernice Peterson

July 20, 1951 — March 29, 2024

Wadena, SK

Bernice was the oldest of 5 children born to Werner and Apolonia (Haas) Nelson. She grew up on the farm near Wadena where she attended school.

In her younger days, Bernice loved to sew, quilt, decorate cakes, cook, bake, and garden. Her love of growing things was evident by the number of house plants in her sunniest windows.

After high school, Bernice moved to Regina where she attained her cosmetology certification and remained there to work until she was drawn back to Wadena in 1976 to be married to Duaine Peterson. She moved her hairdressing business to their home in the Rosebud area. On July 30,1982 their family doubled with the arrival of twin boys! Things were busier on the farm after that!

Bernice enjoyed her time on the farm gardening and tending to her chickens and cats. After Duaine’s passing in 2012, Bernice moved into Wadena. She loved being in ‘town’ as it allowed her to visit at the Seniors’ Manor, Pleasantview and Weneeda. She loved to visit and could be counted on to make a quick call or write a letter just to keep in touch with family & friends, far and near. She enjoyed family gatherings whether at the lake or during the holidays and never missed passing on a birthday or anniversary card or greeting.

She spent time at the rink watching her sons and now, grandsons, play hockey and attended her granddaughter’s gymnastics events and volleyball games.

Bernice was predeceased by her husband, Duaine; her parents Werner and Apolonia; brother Bert; her parents-in-law Walfred and Mildred Peterson; brothers-in-law Dale Peterson and Jamie Murray; sister-in-law Dolores Murray.

She will be remembered by her sons, Calvin and Curtis (Jackie) Peterson; grandchildren Carter, Jillian, and Caine Peterson; siblings Lubie From, Gerald Nelson, Brian (Denise) Nelson;  nieces, nephews and families.
