Betty Joan Louisa Fitch

April 10, 1941 — February 9, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of Betty Joan Louisa Fitch announces her passing. She passed away at home on February 9, 2024, at the age of 82.

Joan was born on April 10, 1941, in Quill Lake to Betty and Ken Winters. Joan started her career as a teacher at a one-room school, then returned to teaching grade one at Quill Lake Elementary School after staying at home with her two children. She later left teaching to work with her husband at their agricultural equipment and supply business on the east side of Quill Lake. She also ran a "Garage Sale" and donated money yearly to Telemiracle from a portion of the sales. Additionally, she was employed in the kitchen at Wadena Hospital for a few years, where she enjoyed working with the new friends she met. When you visited, you could be sure of an excellent home-cooked meal, with lots of homemade treats in the freezer.

She inherited her green thumb from her father and was able to grow a huge, immaculate garden where all her plants thrived. Joan continued to operate the garage after Glenn passed away, gathering wood for the wood stoves (operating the chainsaw herself) until she retired to town. She continued to plant almost every square inch of her yard with vegetables and flowers, digging up more lawn every year to enlarge her garden. She also enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, and knitting in her spare time. In one winter, she donated over 40 pairs of knitted mitts to the Good Neighbor Store in Humboldt.

Joan was predeceased by her parents, Betty and Ken; her husband, Glenn; her son-in-law, Stan; her brother, Keith; and brothers-in-law, Neil, Kent, Lee, and Gail. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Kathy; grandchildren, Ellen (Geremy; daughter, Rory), Stacey (Jordan; daughter, Lydia), and her son, Doug (Shelley); grandchildren, Kevin (Victoria, children Morgan and Rowan), Ryan, and Kristen “Robin”; along with her sister, Linda (Garry), and sister-in-law, Diane, and her nieces and nephews.

We will miss her.
