Betty Panasiuk

July 12, 1936 — May 29, 2016

July 12, 1936 - May 29, 2016

Betty Panasiuk passed away peacefully at Wadena Union Hospital on May 29, 2016.
Betty Bobyk was born on the family farm at Sheho, Saskatchewan, on July 12, 1936. On November 21,1951, she married the love of her life, Tony Panasiuk, and they settled on Tony's family farm at Fishing Lake.
In the early '80s, Betty and Tony sold their farm and moved to Wadena where Betty worked at the Wadena Department Store. Every garment sold bought her a new friendship, which she held dearly through the years that followed. Although Betty had an abundance of friends, her life was never measured by the quantity of friends she acquired but rather by her true and sincere friendship to others. Her heart was filled with love and concern for all those who needed a hug.
Betty loved to cook. Her passion for cooking and baking was evident whenever family and friends gathered around her table as every dish was served with love. The Christmas holiday season was her favourite. Many Christmases passed without a tree or presents but her gift of food, served with love and seasoned with affection, was a gift none of us could ever afford.
Betty's commitment and dedication to caring for Tony was a testament to her marriage vows. She faithfully attended to providing nurturing love and care during his stay at Pleasant View Care Home when she could no longer take care of him at home.
She enjoyed spending time with friends at the seniors' drop-in centre where she played cards and shuffleboard while mingling with her many friends.
When Betty wasn't socializing she'd be nestled in her suite either baking bread, making perogies, dusting and cleaning or washing clothes. She was a very particular and meticulous woman. Wash day would find her hanging linen and clothes on the clothes line then every item was ironed and folded and tucked into drawers and closets.
Betty was very fond of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed the many visits and telephone calls. She loved her family dearly and would often go without so they could have.
Betty was predeceased by her husband Tony; children, Judy, Joan, Brian and Dorothy; parents, John and Anna; and her very best friend Ann Zazula.
She is survived by her loving and devoted son, David; grandchildren, Rob and Shaun (Jenn), Kristin and Kortnee, Brandon and Bryan; great-grandchildren, Kylie, Ashley, Kendall, Aiden, Curtis, Thomas, Brayden and Jace; and by many nieces and nephews.
