Dorothy Skaalrud

March 1, 1937- May 6, 2016Dorothy Loretta Skaalrud (Braun) was born on March 1, 1937, at Lake Lenore, Saskatchewan. She spent her first years on the farm until the family moved to Lake Lenore when she was 12. Dorothy graduated from Lake Lenore School and went on to attend the Saskatoon Business College to take a secretarial course. After she completed her schooling, Dorothy worked in the nurses' school at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Humboldt. It was during this time that Dorothy met the love of her life: Lloyd Skaalrud. Dorothy and Lloyd were married on September 16, 1961, and she maintained for the rest of her life that she was the best birthday gift he ever got. Lloyd and Dorothy farmed near Hendon, Sask. for most of their married life. On the farm, Dorothy did anything and everything to keep things going. She gardened, baked, cooked, cleaned, and canned and froze any fresh vegetables and fruit she could get her hands on. And that was just in the house. Outside, Dorothy helped with the cattle and was Lloyd's primary mechanic's assistant. Dorothy enjoyed life and liked nothing better than being surrounded by friends and family. No matter how small her house, all were welcome and guaranteed a delicious meal. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Marcella Braun; sisters, Rosemarie and Marie (Mae); nephew Glen Wourms; in-laws, Orvin and Cecilia Skaalrud; and sister-in-law Colleen Anderson. Dorothy is survived by her husband Lloyd and six children, Ardel (Sheila), Dean, Dawne (Arden) Ehlert, Doug, Lynnette and Robert; six grandchildren, Dustin Skaalrud, Danielle (Coleman) Applegate, Kevin Skaalrud, Tyler Ehlert, Dylan Ehlert, and Jasmine Ehlert; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her three sisters, Armella Wourms, Bernilda (Dan) Schneider and Annette (Donald) Brown; five brothers, Norbert (Eileen), Elmer (Maureen), Jim (Claudette), Dave (Grace) and Marvin (Sonia); brother-in-law Dwaine (Agnes); sisters-in-law, Janice Skaalrud, Irene Skinner, Leona (Ray) Washkowsky and Sharon (Edward) Yurkowski; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
