Edith Melvina Ottmann

Edith Melvina (Hoard) Ottmann, 92, of Wadena, Sask., passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026. Born May 30, 1933, she was the eighth of ten children born to Adelbert and Ella (Grieves) Hoard of the Rama, Sask., district. In the early 1940s, the family moved to a farm near Kuroki, Sask., where she obtained her education at Bear Lake School.

On June 30, 1953, she married Gordon Ottmann of the Kylemore district. They established a family farm where they worked and resided for 27 years before semi-retiring and moving to Wadena, Sask., in 1980. Edith was employed for a short time at Weneeda Park Care Home in the kitchen before beginning employment in 1981 at Pleasant View Care Home as a nurse’s aide, where she worked until her retirement in 1993. Afterward, she spent many years volunteering her help at Pleasant View Care Home.

Edith was a hardworking, quiet individual who dedicated herself wholeheartedly to the tasks of farm life, as well as volunteer work, gardening, crocheting, knitting, and quilt-making. As the years progressed, she began downsizing, with her final residence being Pleasant View Care Home in 2019. She was very happy residing there and always praised the staff for the love and care she received.

Left to mourn Edith’s memory are her sons, Merlon (Monica) and Morton (Lois); grandchildren Darrell (Rochelle), Sheila, Jason, Shaunna (Shaun), and Jillian (Craig); great-grandchildren Eryka (Brock), Emma (Noah), Rayden, Easton, Stella, Wyatt, and Sadie; and great-great-grandson Levi McLane, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Edith was predeceased by her husband, Gordon; her parents, Adelbert and Ella Hoard; brothers Gilbert, Gordon, Arthur, and Lawrence; and sisters Ruth, Norma, Muriel, Lorna, and Lorraine.

As per Edith's wishes, a private family funeral service will be held in the coming days.
