It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Edward Durack, at the age of 91, on Saturday, August 2nd, 2025, with his family by his side.
Ed was born on the farm at Kinlock, SK, on July 29, 1934, to Mike and Mary Durack. He was the second oldest of ten children. On July 4, 1959, Ed married Joyce Shpak, the love of his life. They were blessed with three children.
Ed farmed at Kinlock, SK. In 1966, he built their first home in Kelvington, SK, where they raised their family. In 1975, the family moved to Wadena and purchased the Wadena Department Stores. Ed was actively involved in the community. He volunteered his time as a town councillor, served on the Wadena Hospital Board, and was a volunteer firefighter. He was full of energy, loved the outdoors, and was not one to sit still. After retiring from the store, he continued pursuing his passion by helping local farmers with seeding and harvesting. Later, Ed also helped with odd jobs at Frontier Truck & Trailer.
A talented carpenter, Ed built the family homes and crafted numerous pieces of furniture with his loving hands for his children, grandchildren, family, and friends. Ed was happiest when keeping busy. He was generous and always willing to help family and friends. His love of life shone through his outgoing personality and beautiful smile. Ed was a fabulous storyteller and loved telling a good joke. His eyes would sparkle and light up around his loved ones.
His pride and joy were his family. He was a devoted and loving husband to Joyce, his children, and his grandchildren. Ed loved helping people. He was extremely intelligent and always knew what to do. He was graciously willing to assist family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers. His positive, easy-going attitude and incredible work ethic will be greatly missed by all.
Ed leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Joyce, of 66 years; his children, Bevis and Cheryl; his grandchildren, Charity, Devan (Chris), and Jared (Nicole); his great-grandchildren, Jake, Elizabeth, Rose, Oliver, and Jackson; as well as his brothers, sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ed, with his loved ones in Heaven, is now reunited with his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Rachael; his parents, Mike and Mary; and other family and friends.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff at Pleasant View Care Home for the loving and compassionate care provided during Dad’s brief illness.
A graveside service will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed’s memory can be made to:
