Elsie Sucholotoky

April 4, 1937 — April 8, 2017

Elsie Sucholotoky was born on April 4, 1937, the fourth child of Bill and Mary Marchuk of the Drobot area. Elsie received her education up to Grade 9 in the Chernowitz School District. After receiving her education she stayed working on her family’s farm and hosted meals along with her parents for the RM of Insinger construction workers, which consisted of a fellow name John Sucholotoky, who Elsie took fond of and the two became a couple after dating for a few years.

John and Elsie got married on November 4, 1956 and moved onto the Sucholotoky family farm, south and east of Sheho. There they farmed along with John’s parents for a few years and began raising a family of their own. They belonged to the Polowyk’s chuch.

Elsie was a very hard worker on the farm alongside her husband, helping in the field, taking care of the barnyard chores, growing an enormous garden, preserving all she could to sustain a family and teaching their children all there was to know about working towards making a living on the farm. Spring was her favorite season as everything came to life and tending to the many farm animals and poultry, even her favorite “hen”. Mom was great at entertaining on every Ukrainian Christmas and Easter with all the traditional dishes, with lots to eat and always making sure she had invited all her family, friends and neighbours to enjoy the festivities. Elsie was one for always having someone over for a game of cards and a huge lunch to follow and would make sure you never left hungry. One of Mom’s passions was for the beauty of her flowers planted all around her house and garden. Mom also had the luck of the horseshoe and enjoyed winning radio bingo and scratch tickets and buying raffle tickets and winning. Mom had a very big heart and lots of Love and Caring watching her grandchildren grow up followed by her great grandchildren.

In 2004 Elsie and John could no longer farm and moved to Foam Lake and later, on May 9, 2010, had a farm auction. After Mom’s health declined and she could no longer be at home by herself she moved to the Foam Lake Jubilee Home on March 2, 2016.

Mom was strong willed and, with the support of her dear companion Metro and family, she did not give up to her illness. It was on April 8, 2017 when Mom was peacefully called to be with the Lord, where she will not suffer any more.

Elsie leaves to celebrate and rejoice in her memory her three children Bev (Marlowe) Abtosway, Earl Sucholotoky and Sharon (Kevin) White; grandchildren Christopher (Jessica) Abtosway, Aleshia Abtosway, Chastidy (Cory) Fleishhacker, Charmaine White (Les Olafson), Tyson White (Becky Grant), Kimberlin White (Ben Lockert); great grandchildren Sterling, Leon, Owen and Vaughn Abtosway, Reece and Jaxon Fleishhacker, Addison and Rhett Olafson and Ava White, along with her sisters Dora Lastiwka and Rose Dariechuk. Elsie was predeceased by her husband John (2014), infant daughter Virginia (1957), mother Mary (1963), father Bill (1967) sister Olga (1984), brother Martin (2001) and Sister Katie (2011).
