Florence Kayseas

She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Gwen (Mike), Brenda (Bob), Barry, Sharon, Bobby (Marlene), Donny (Verna), Rhonda, and her special son Ross Cadotte (Sharon); along with 24 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren . She was predeceased by her deeply loved husband of 56 years, Jerry Kayseas; her parents, Mark and Violet Desjarlais; her son, Harvey Kayseas; and grandchildren Natasha Rae Bellegarde-Kayseas, Meriah Valentine Bellegarde-Kayseas, Tyla Whitebird, and Harvey Kayseas Jr. She was the first Education Guidance Councillor for Fishing Lake, working closely with families and the Wadena schools. A strong advocate for education, she encouraged children to pursue learning and strive to become contributing members of society. Later, she joined the Indian & Métis Friendship Centre in Saskatoon as a Home and School Liaison Worker, supporting inner-city families in ensuring their children attended school. What began as a one-year pilot project under her dedication grew into a 13-year success. When she returned to Fishing Lake, Saskatoon Public Schools adopted the program, carrying forward her vision of supporting families and helping children succeed in their education. She spent her later years in Fishing Lake First Nation, where she remained an inspiration to all who knew her—especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the heart of her life. The Wake will be held at the Percy Severight Memorial Hall in Fishing Lake First Nation on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at the Percy Severight Memorial Hall on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Fishing Lake First Nation, followed by a traditional feast at the Percy Severight Memorial Hall in Kylemore.
