It is great sadness that we announce the passing of Francis Alfred Lueke on Saturday, 6th September, 2025, at Pleasant View Care Home in Wadena SK.
Francis was born on the 4th of June, 1932, during the great depression. He was raised in a large German speaking family on a farm near Fulda SK. When he was five he attended Keller school to learn English before he started Grade 1. Like many of that era he dropped out after grade 8 to help the family on the farm and also to assist in the store his father owned in Fulda.
Once he became old enough he went out on his own, working in lumber camps in Ontario, diamond drilling crews in Manitoba, and construction crews in Exshaw AB and in Saskatoon. It was in Saskatoon that he met his future wife, Lillian Miles. In 1957 he went back to farming, renting the family farm near Fulda. In 1961 he and Lillian were married. Garth and Tim were born while they were at Fulda. In the spring of 1965 he purchased a farm between Invermay and Lintlaw and during that time Richard, Ian and Glenda were born. He also worked on road construction during some of the winters. He continued to farm until the mid ‘90s when he rented out the land. He and Lillian moved to Spruce Manor in Wadena in 2019 and when his health began to decline he moved to Pleasant View Care Home where he spent the remainder of his days.
Francis loved old time music and enjoyed going to dances with Lillian. He also enjoyed having people over to play cards or cribbage and visiting family.
Francis was active in many organizations. He was the secretary for local Wheat Pool and the Knights of Columbus. He also served as trustee for the Canora school division and on church council at St Theresa’s in Lintlaw.
Despite leaving school early Francis had a good understanding of science and math. He taught his children many things, from compound interest and how the moon stayed in orbit to the value of hard work. He was always interested in learning, often reading through Lillian’s encyclopedia set on cold winter evenings.
Francis was predeceased by his parents Herman and Clementina Lueke; brothers: Marcellus, Arthur, Clarence, Herman, Donald; sisters: Loretta, Caroline, Florence, Anne, Marianne; numerous brothers and sisters in-law; granddaughters Miranda and Nikita.
Francis is survived by his wife of 64 years Lillian (nee Miles); son Garth (Tanya) and their children Daniel, Katherine, James; son Timothy (Vicky) their daughter Amanda; son Richard (Brenda Lee) their children Justin (Keara) Dominic, Sierra (Ron) Oliver and Henry; son Ian (Lori Anne) and their children Devin, Masan, Aiden; daughter Glenda (Stephen) Zackrisson and their children Jordan, Joshua; sisters; Delores Beuker, Bernice Becker; brother-in law Danny Steiner, sister-in-law May Lajeunesse; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
