Janet Ingram

November 27, 1923 — December 22, 2016

Janet Melrose was born on November 17, 1923 in Mosstower, a small farm in the Scottish Borders.

She emigrated to Kelvington, Saskatchewan in 1947 as a war bride and married Lewis Ingram on July 16, 1947.  By this twist of romantic fate she came to live on the farm next to her parents half a world from where she had been born. She returned to Scotland only twenty-one years later for her first of many subsequent visits making her last visit in 2004 at the age of 80.

Apparently in early June, 1947 she had been pushing Elizabeth, her young cousin, about the streets of Jedburgh, Scotland in the pram when someone remarked to her that in a year she would be pushing her own child in the pram.  Dismissing this as a bit of rubbish, as they would say, she went on her way.  As it turned out her eldest was indeed born in early June 1948.

But prairie life was not to be romantic—it had its difficulties and challenges which she met with intense hardwork, tidiness, ambition, energy, hospitality and always shiny floors, and a little touch of colorful handiwork made by her own hands.  Perhaps her first brush with prairie reality came a week after her arrival when she was bridesmaid for her sister-in-laws wedding. She nearly had to miss the wedding dance because of rain.  Brits miss nothing because of rain.  As it was it seems she rode horseback(another first) to the dance and walked part way home in her barefeet.

On December 22, 2016 at the age of 93 she got her wish which was to just go to sleep when she passed away.

She leaves to mourn her daughters:  Darlene(Pat) Kidd, Kelly(Justine & Ellie), Christa;  Lavonne(Ed)Hope, Melissa(Spencer) Hope,  Ashley(D’Neil & D’Nali),Jeremy, Candis(Rob)Ziola, Jansen, Layne, Kyle(Alyson) Hope & Jack& Rhett;  Bonnie(Rod) Guy, Ferrah(Simon)Graham, Neely& Dax, Tyler (Janelle), two sisters-in-law—Evelyn Ingram and Delphine Melrose and several nieces and nephews and cousins:  Marlene(Emil) Kreig of Germany, Sharon(Adrien) Petras, Murray(Diane) Melrose and several in Scotland.  She is predeceased by her parents, Robert and Helen Melrose, her husband Lewis Ingram, her brothers Jim and Alex Melrose and sister-in-law Norrie Melrose, brothers-in-law, Wesley(Elsie) and Bob Ingram as well as sisters-in-law Dolly(Bill) Ewen, Wilma(Harold,Ralph) Hendren, Marion(Doug) McDonald, Winona(Art)(Stan) Piper, MacFee.
