With love and deep sadness, the family of John Charles Eyre announces his passing in Craik, Saskatchewan, on September 10, 2026, at the age of 82, with his wife of 55 years, Gwen, by his side.

Born in Wadena, Saskatchewan, on January 29, 1944, John built a life grounded in family, service, and community. He grew up on the Eyre family farm near Hendon and later attended the University of Saskatchewan. On May 25, 1967, he joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, training at Depot Division in Regina. While stationed in Carberry, Manitoba, in 1969, he met Gwen, the love of his life, and they married in 1971.

During his 34-year RCMP career, John served in Manitoba, worked in specialized security and counter‑terrorism roles, and held postings in Saskatchewan at Melville, Rose Valley, and Craik. He served as Detachment Commander in both Rose Valley and Craik, retiring as a Sergeant on May 31, 2001. His service was recognized with the RCMP Long Service Medal with Silver Clasp and Star and the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal. He was also a proud longtime member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 10 in Craik.

John was an accomplished curler, competing with the Manitoba police curling team that finished as national runners‑up. He loved fishing, hunting, flying, and spending time with his family, especially his four grandsons. He and Gwen treasured their travels together—from cross‑Canada family trips in the station wagon and tent trailer to adventures farther afield—memories that remain among Ryan and Michael’s most cherished.

John is lovingly remembered by his wife, Gwen; children, Ryan and Michael (Kaly) Eyre; grandchildren, Jack, Gunnar, Ragnar, and Reinar; siblings, Don (Joanne), Sharon, and Brenda; nephews, Wayne (Jennifer), John (Joy), Jeff (Kara), Greg (Jennifer), Scott, and Eric (Stella); nieces, Stacey (Travis), Lisa, Kelsey (James), and Karen; sister‑in‑law, Lorna (Bruce); brother‑in‑law, Sam; and many cousins, extended family members, and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Doris Eyre; brother, Richard; sisters‑in‑law, Phyllis Strain and Mona Robinson; brothers‑in‑law, Jim Bell, Myron Holte, and Terry Strain; and cousins, Jimmy Carlson and Terry Bekolay.

John will be deeply missed and forever remembered through the stories, laughter, and lessons he shared.
