Joyce Anna Audrey Gryba (nee Krienke) was born January 11, 1932, to Otto and Ada Krienke of Quill Lake, Saskatchewan.  She was the youngest child and the only girl, having seven older brothers.  Upon Otto’s passing on July 17, 1942, Joyce and her mother moved from Quill Lake to Victoria, British Columbia.  As a young girl, Joyce took dance lessons and enjoyed coastal living.  After completing her education in Victoria, she returned to the Quill Lake area and became a nurse.  She worked in Quill Lake for several years then moved on to Wadena, where she remained for over thirty years until retiring at the age of seventy.  She absolutely loved her job and never had a bad day.

Joyce married the love of her life, Paul Gryba, on June 18, 1952.  They enjoyed life together on their farm near Quill Lake, raising their three children – Clifford (Silvia), Darcy (Alphonse), and Samantha (Billy).  She was an active member of the Twin Creek District and took great pride in the Figure Skating Club, to which Darcy and Samantha were a part of.  Paul passed away at Thanksgiving in 1985.

Joyce loved sewing and making costumes for figure skating, dance, and Halloween.  She was very proud of each of her children and grandchildren.  She would often spend her free time with family.  She loved to make crafts with her grandchildren and take them swimming to Salt Lake or Fishing Lake.  She also taught them how to sew and bake; and to be caring, kind, and patient.  At Joyce’s house there was always time for a visit, with a cup of hot cocoa and toast or a double pack of Dad’s cookies to fill your belly.  She was always there in a time of need – whether it was to get out a tough grease stain, have a place for you to stay, or lend a listening ear.

Later in life, Joyce moved to Evergreen Country Home in Leroy, Saskatchewan.  She enjoyed living there as she knew many of the residents from her younger days in the Quill Lake area.  Recently, she moved to St. Mary’s Villa in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, where she passed away peacefully on Monday, August 3, 2020.  She was a beautiful soul and will be lovingly remembered by her children – Clifford (Silvia), Darcy (Alphonse), and Samantha (Billy), grandchildren and great grandchildren – Paul John Swiderski, Sommer (Curtis), Autumn, and Pierce MacLeod, Elke (Kyle), Paisley, and Easton Pisio, Matthias (Sohee), Iroha, and Eugen Gryba, Andreas (Jami), and Alvin Gryba, Ute Gryba (Steven), Chelsea (Landen) Merrill,  and Tatum Wildeman (Josh).
