Lillian Eleanor (Walker) Johannesson passed away peacefully at the Kelvindell Lodge on February 5th, 2019 at the age of 95. Lillian was born on March 17, 1923, to Guernsey and Anna Walker of the little Quill District. She was one of seven children.

In 1941 Guernsey and Anna left the farm and moved to Saskatoon and later to Ontario. Meanwhile, Lillian and her older brother John stayed on the family farm. On October 5th, 1943 Lillian married Kristjon Johannesson and settled on a farm north of Wynyard. This union blessed them with five children: Bryon, Wayne, Eleanor, Bjarni and Doreen. In 1953 they moved closer to Wynyard as Joe started working for the Little Quill Telephone Company as a lineman. Between 1956 and 1959 Lillian and Joe traveled between the West Coast and Wynyard doing various jobs. They missed the farming life though so in 1959, with five kids in tow, they bought a quarter section a mile southwest of Okla. Lillian told us years ago it was the Big Red Barn, which still stands today, that caught Joe’s eye. In 1971 Joe and Lillian decided to think about retirement. They sold their quarter section to Wayne and built their retirement home just a half a mile north. Retirement for Lillian consisted of a huge vegetable garden, various flowers, and acres of lawn to cut in the summer months and quilting in the winter months. Lillian had a love for quilting and could make a masterpiece  out of simple  scraps of material. Many  of  her  children, grandchildren,

great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces are proud owners of one of her masterpieces. Quilting would happen in the winter months once the gardening and canning were complete. Anyone who had the pleasure of visiting Lillian knew her cookie jar was always full. If, on a rare occasion it wasn’t, her grandchildren would leave signs around her house to remind her that her jars were empty.

In the spring of 1994, Lilian and Joe were in a serious car accident that left Joe paralyzed and, although Lillian suffered no real physical injuries, the mental pain she must have suffered no one could ever imagine as she never spoke of it. She stood by Joe, the love of her life, and cared for him until the day he passed away. She never complained.

Lillian’s memory began to deteriorate in 2010. She moved to the Rose Valley Manor where she spent a few years before moving to the Kelvindell Lodge where she lived until she left to join the love of her life, Joe.

Lillian is predeceased by her parents Guernsey and Anna Walker, husband Kristjon (Joe) of 59 years, siblings Charles, John, Rema, and Sara, grandson Shawn, daughter-in-law Marilyn and son-in-law Wade, as well as numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.
