Linda Nikkel was born to John and Susie (Friesen) Walde in Bassano, Alberta, on September 16, 1932. Linda passed away peacefully at Wynyard Hospital on Friday, November 10, 2023, with her daughter by her side. She grew up on a farm near Gem, AB, as the third of seven children – four girls and three boys (Agnes, Elma, Linda, Ernie, John, Lou, Fred) – and she enjoyed the freedom of farm life.

Linda met Abe Nikkel at AMHS (Alberta Mennonite High School) in Coaldale, AB. Abe and Linda were married on August 22, 1953. Their marriage was blessed with Larry (1955), Roy (1957), and Valerie (1958). They initially tried farming, then went to Winnipeg, MN for Abe to pursue further education. In January 1956, they moved to Calgary, AB, where they resided for the rest of their married life. Abe battled cancer, and Linda lovingly and faithfully cared for him. Abe passed away on December 22, 2012, and Linda stayed in Calgary in their family home for five more years. When Linda's eyesight significantly diminished due to Macular Degeneration, she moved to Foam Lake, SK, in 2017, to live near her daughter Val Block.

Sadly, Linda suffered a stroke in September 2017, shortly after moving to Foam Lake. She made a valiant recovery but lived with complications until her death in 2023.

Linda loved her Lord, her family, and her friends. She often referred to herself as "a cowgirl from Alberta." Whenever she visited the farm, her first request was to see the horses. Whenever possible, she would go for a ride; in her later years, she was thrilled when we helped her get on a horse, even if only for a short time. Linda also had a deep appreciation for nature, naming numerous flowers, trees, and various birds and ducks. She loved identifying the sounds of birds. She was a dedicated supporter of MCC (Mennonite Central Committee) and worked at the MCC store in Calgary for over 40 years.

Linda was predeceased by her husband, parents, and her older sister Agnes. She leaves to mourn her children, Larry (Lorraine), Roy, Valerie (Richard Block), five grandchildren (Travis, Candace, Matthew, Lindsay, Stephanie), nine great-grandchildren, siblings, numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.

Linda will be dearly missed by all who loved her.
