Mary Miller

August 8, 1923 - June 6, 2016

Mary Louise Miller was born at the Quill Lake Nursing Home on August 8, 1923, to George and Jessie Belfour. Mary attended the New Dale School in the Rose Valley School District. At age 15 she left school and went to work for various farmers in the area to help support the family. Mary met the love of her life Magnus (Mike) Miller and they were married on October 20, 1948.
They started their married life in Archerwill and then moved to the Mozart district until 1971 when they purchased a service station and restaurant at Dafoe, which they managed until 1976. While there, Mary's homemade pies became famous throughout the area. They then semi-retired to an acreage on the outskirts of Wynyard. Mary's new career became looking after children and gardening - two of her most favorite things to do. If you couldn't find her in the house, you could always find her in the garden.
When her husband passed away in 1999, she sold the acreage and moved to Senior Housing in Wadena so she would be close to her daughter Johanna and son-in-law Clayton. Mary lived in Wadena for the next 17 years. Even at the age of 92 when you phoned her, she would tell you she was on the way to work, but this time is wasn't with children it was with Seniors. Mary was always ready to lend a hand and help out whenever it was needed.
Mary spent the last 8 months in Rose Valley at the Rose Valley Manor.
She is survived by her daughters, Sophie (Lorne)Goodwin, Evangeline (Manny) Logan, Alice (Ray) Nixdorf, and Johanna (Clayton) Pirie; one son Glen (Karen) Miller; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorthy and Vera and one brother Henry.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Mike; sisters, Alice, Shirley, Fannie, Julia, and Mae; brothers, George and Robert.
