Merle lived and worked in the Kuroki area in her early years. She married William Hanchuk on May 19, 1942, and they made their home in Margo. In 2009 when William passed, she moved to Wadena and lived there until her recent passing.
Merle was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved to garden and grew beautiful flowers and bountiful vegetables. She was also a fantastic baker with her specialty being buns, baking powder biscuits and cinnamon rolls.
Merle was predeceased by her husband William in 2009; daughters, Laurie (1970) and Myrna (2008); brother Herbert; sisters, Blanche and Ethel; as well as by three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
She is survived by daughters, Judy (Jim) Engele and Joanne (Richard) Mantyak; grandchildren, Trev (Kandy) Engele, Tracey Engele (Marty Scheller), Jennifer (Ryan) McDonald, Chris (Tara) Mantyak, Jeff (Rae-Anne) Tallon, and Tim (Mallory) Tallon; great-grandchildren, Cody Engele (Jenna Hoffman), Tasha Engele (D.J. Deschambealt), Baily Scheller (Brad Pegg), Kieran McDonald, Kaelen McDonald, Huxley Mantyak, Ayzlin Mantyak, Pepper Mantyak, Stella Tallon and Owen Tallon; great, great-granchildren, Halo Engele and Damien McKaeff; brothers-in-law, Sid White and Jack Colville; and by sister-in-law Mary Hanchuk.
Merle was a woman of faith and lived her life guided by Christian values. She will be sadly missed by family and friends and will live on forever in our hearts and memories.
