In Loving Memory of
Nellie Kostiuk
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Nellie wanted people to care for one another and just be kind to everyone, especially during these times.
If friends so desire, donations in Nellie’s memory may be made to the Regina Humane Society.
It is with immense sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our mom, Nellie Kostiuk, at the age of 79. She was the tenth child born to Mike and Mary Wielgoz.
Nellie attended school at Cresswell to grade 7, grade 8 at Doonside and later completed grade 11 and part of grade 12. She worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lestock, SK, then the General Hospital in Regina, SK. She joined the Royal Canadian Armed Forces in Regina and was sent to St. John’s, NL, where she was chosen for fighter control operator. Not caring for this trade, she remustered to nursing, but was told the other trade was in more demand. Not satisfied, she asked out and was granted an Honorable release. She moved back to Saskatchewan and worked for a doctor’s office.
In July of 1962, she married Wesley Kostiuk. They called Wishart home and raised four children.
Nellie had a strong belief in faith and often read scriptures in church on Sundays. She so loved her flowers; planting many in order to make her world beautiful. She was known for her gardening skills and planted a huge garden every spring; often way beyond what she could eat but did so for the love of it. She enjoyed playing bingo and playing cards (3-spot in particular) and was known to join tournaments, with dad as a partner, in the neighboring communities. It made her giggle to know they won the tournament! Nellie also loved watching all the little birds that would come and spend time in her front yard. They would land on her hand and eat from her palm. She loved to go fishing (even all night) - she said this was the best time to catch a walleye! She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren which were the love and joy of her life.
Nellie was predeceased by her husband Wesley, her parents Mike and Mary Wielgoz, brother Joe, sister-in-law Ann, brother Edward, brother Mike, sister-in-law Bernice, brother Steve, sister-in-law Bernice, brother Andy, sister-in-law Florence, brother John, sister-in-law Ann, brother-in-law Joe Shewchuk and brother-in-law Leonard Kostiuk, as well as some nieces and nephews.
Her memory will be forever cherished by her four children: son Alexander (Bonnie) and their children Colin (Carissa) and Danielle (Philip); son Maurice and his children Matthew ((Rachelle, (Paisley)), Josh and Sera; son Monte (Viki) and children Brandon and Wendy; and daughter Petina and her children Sam and Shanise.
We will dearly miss your presence.
Mother in Heaven
If Roses grow in Heaven Lord,
please pick a bunch for me.
Place them in my Mother’s arms
and tell her they’re from me.
Tell her that I love her and miss her,
and when she turns to smile,
Place a kiss upon her cheek
and hold her for awhile.
Because remembering her is easy,
I do it every day,
But there’s an ache within my heart
that will never go away.
