Paul Hankewich

August 2, 1924 — January 29, 2016

August 2, 1924 - January 29, 2016

Paul Hankewich passed away peacefully with family by his side on January 29, 2016, at St. Paul's Hospital, Saskatoon. He now joins the love of his life, his wife Jenny, who predeceased him by one month on December 29, 2015. They are now once again holding hands and smiling down on their loved ones.
Paul was born on August 2, 1924. He attended Ponass Lake School until he had to stay home and help on the farm. When he was older, he also went to work in the northern logging camps. He loved to share stories of working the land with horses, their first tractor, his first truck, the logging camps, and all the hardships and good times of the old days.
He married Jenny Luchkanych on October 22, 1950, and they were blessed to have 65 years together. They farmed in the Ponass Lake area and raised a family of five: three sons and two daughters. They remained on the farm until their retirement in 1997, when they moved to Quill Lake. They enjoyed their retirement by travelling and spending time with family and friends.
Paul was an honest and hard-working farmer and he loved the land and farming. Even in retirement, he would look forward to going out to the farm and helping with the harvest.
He was an avid member of the Sask. Wheat Pool and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed watching hockey, curling, and pro-wrestling. He loved playing horseshoes and, in later years, mini-golf. Many games were won by him due to his holes-in-one. His greatest pride though were his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They would always bring a smile to his face even when his health was failing.
Paul was predeceased by his loving wife Jenny; his parents, Panko Hankewich and Helen Shemela; his step-father John Shemela; siblings, Mary (Bert) Alcock, John Hankewich, and Mike (Irene) Shemela; parents-in-law, Andrew and Fanny Luchkanych; sister-in-law Mary Samoil; and brother-in-law Steve Krakowetz.
He is survived and will be missed by his children, Michael (Arlene) Hankewich, Daniel (Christel) Hankewich, Cathy (Walter) Lafontaine, Beverly (Edward) Gutek, and Jim (Bonnie) Hankewich; grandchildren, Devin Hankewich, Jason (Brooke) Hankewich, Jesse Lafontaine, Amy (William) Atkin, Reagan (Craig) Macnab, Kendra (Regan) Reineke, Todd Hankewich, and Kerri-Lynn Hankewich; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Jacey, Mary, Emma, Heidi, and Dominic.
