Robert Alan Ruston

July 13, 1934 — March 14, 2026

Kelvington

The family of Robert (Bob) Ruston is very sad to announce his passing on March 14, 2026, in Kelvington, SK at the age of 91. Bob is lovingly remembered and will be dearly missed by his siblings-in-law Rose Ruston and Fran Ruston; and his nieces and nephews Stanley Braaten (MaryAnne), David Braaten (Diane), Mark Braaten, James Braaten, Louise Klein, Edwin Ruston (Shelly), Howard Ruston (Karen), Linda Exner (Shawn), Robert Dale Ruston (Kathleen), Brenda McIntosh (Paul), Della Peterson (Wayne), and Nola Breeze (Fred). Also left to remember him are many great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Bob was predeceased by his mother Edith Ruston, father Joseph Ruston, infant sister Edith Ruston, sister Kathleen Grunert, brothers George Ruston and Richard (Dick) Ruston, brother-in-law Harry Braaten, nephew Wayne Ruston, niece Linda Lockhart, niece-in-law Sandy Braaten, nephew-in-law Robert Klein.

Born and raised on a farm 6 miles south of Nut Mountain, SK, Bob was the fourth of five children to Joseph and Edith Ruston. He attended the Glengariff School and completed grade 8. That fall, he hauled sheaves to a threshing machine, then worked around the family farm. In 1955, he loaded lumber in box cars in Somme, SK. In 1956, he drove a logging truck at Creston and Golden, BC. In 1958, he bought a quarter of land and farmed with his dad and brother George. George sold his land in 1966, Bob continued to farm with his dad until he passed in 1975 at which time Bob took over the farm and looked after his mom until she passed in 1996.

Bob loved farming, raising black angus cattle and tinkering with trucks and farm machinery, especially Allis-Chalmers tractors. They were his pride and joy. He had as many as ten at one time and kept them all in good working order. He had a hard time letting them go.

Bob was definitely a “fix it” man. There wasn’t anything that he couldn’t fix. Friends would bring him their broken clocks and watches, and he would have them running in no time. When Bob was just a teen, he put together his first set of wheels from a variety of different car parts found on the property. He must have been so proud of his accomplishment!

Bob’s door was always open, and he enjoyed chatting over a cup of coffee and pie either in town or at his home.
