Alexander Rodney “Rod” Haus

February 2, 1943 – August 11, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alexander Rodney “Rod” Haus on the morning of August 11, 2025, at Silver Heights in Raymore, SK.

Rod was born on February 2, 1943, to Alexander and Olga Haus (Plohr). He grew up on the family farm south of Quinton as the second oldest of eight children. He attended Mission Lake and Quintonschools.

After finishing school, Rod worked for his brother Dale in road construction. He later moved to Regina and worked for J.C. Wilson, a paving contractor, and the City of Regina.

Rod married Muriel Haus (Schuler) on February 8, 1964. They lived in Regina for their first eight years of marriage where they had two daughters; Wanda and Lorelei.

In 1972 they moved back to Punnichy where Rod worked at different jobs such as the grader operator for the R.M. of Touchwood and maintenance for the Village of Punnichy. During this time, they purchased farm machinery and land, eventually moving out to the farm in 1983 where Rod was able to continue the Haus legacy as the third generation to farm on that land for over 100 years. Rod was well known in the community for his 35-year long career as a school bus driver, which began in 1973.

His love for animals was evident in his daily life. On the farm, Rod raised cows, pigs, and chickens. Though he took pride in the work, he often found himself too attached to the animals when it came time to butcher them. He enjoyed feeding the deer that gathered in front of the barn and watching them from his kitchen window.

Muriel was the love of Rods life. They enjoyed their life together on the farm with their dogs and cats being treated as their own children. Rod’s devotion to his wife Muriel was unwavering, especially during her illness after his retirement, as he lovingly drove her to appointments and treatments. His heart never fully recovered after her passing in 2010.

Rod was predeceased by his beloved wife, Muriel; his daughter, Lorelei Paulsen; his parents Alexander and Olga Haus; brothers Harvey, Dale, and Gerry Haus; in-laws, Otto and Lena Schuler; brothers-in-law, Reg Possion, Ron Schlosser, Charles Schuler, Harold Danchuk, John Middelkoop, and Dave Phillips; sisters-in-law, Irene Phillips, Emma Middelkoop, Kathy Keep, Betty Danchuk, and Dorothy Lorenz.

Rod is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Wanda (Roger) Digney; son-in-law, Brad Paulsen; his grandchildren, Tara (Brett) Hillis, Jeff (Nerissa) Digney, Jared Digney, Chelsey (Mitch) Fazakas, Brittany (Brandon) Purdue, Breanne Paulsen, and Dalton (Jamie Brown) Paulsen; his great-grandchildren, Milo, Rowan, and Eric Hillis; Jayce and Braxton Digney;Piper, Sawyer, and Lennon Fazakas; and Blaire Purdue; his siblings, Keith (Carmen) Haus, Lorna (Clarence)Charko, Marilyn Poisson, and Gloria (Victor) Senft; brother-in-law, Bob Keep; and sister-in-law, Marge Schuler.

Rod was a selfless and caring man, always asking how others were doing and taking the time to visit. In his later years, after moving to the Manor in Raymore, he enjoyed cruising around town on his scooter, always ready with a smile and a friendly wave. He loved when his family, especially his grandchildren came to visit. His treat cupboard was always full for them to help themselves. After the untimely passing of his daughter, Lorelei, he became a pillar of strength for her children in their time of grief even with his own broken heart.

Rod’s kindness, gentle humor, and love for his family will be deeply missed. His presence was a gift, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Fall of 2025
