Elfros Community Hall, Elfros
Ron Zander was born on February 15, 1957, in Sudbury, Ontario. He lived in Ontario until his family moved to Raymore, Saskatchewan, where his mom and dad had previously farmed. They lived in Raymore until the fall of 1959 when Arnold sold the land and bought four quarters in the Elfros area. Shortly thereafter, Ron's sister Myra was born on February 3, 1961.
Ron began his schooling in Elfros where he took kindergarten to grade eight; he then moved to Foam Lake where he finished his high school years. After graduating in 1975, he worked at the Wynyard Co-op service station for two years before continuing his education at Kelsey Institute. He received his certificate for Motor Vehicle Mechanical Repair in 1979 then continued working at the Wynyard Co-op service station until 1985.
During this time, he met Sandra Chasky, whom he proudly married on July 2, 1983. They lived briefly in Wynyard until they moved to the Elfros area, just down the road from Ron's parents. In May of 1985, Ron was hired by Foam Lake Motors, where he enjoyed working throughout his mechanical career. On June 24, 1990, Derek, their first son, was born. In 1993, the family purchased the Chasky homestead, just before their second son, Duncan, was born on May 27, 1993. Their youngest son, Kyle, was born on April 13, 1995. From then on, Ron continued to farm with his family until his father became sick. Ron took over the family farm with his wife and sons. When his health became an issue, Derek, Duncan, and Kyle, began taking on more of the farming responsibilities.
Ron passed away suddenly on November 15, 2014. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend. He will be greatly missed by his wife of thirty-one years, Sandra; sons, Derek (Brandi), Duncan, and Kyle (Emily); sister Myra (Paul); niece Melissa; and numerous family and friends.
Ron was predeceased by his parents, Arnold and Edna Zander, and father-in-law Franklin Chasky.
