Roy Clifford Holo was born October 3, 1920 to Martin and Matilda (Matty) Holo on the homestead. He was the third child and first son of seven children. As was the practice in those days the eldest son helped with the farming, so Roy quit school in Grade 8 to help with the family farm. In later years, he did carpentry and worked for Gall's Lumber Yard. It was while he was working for Galls building schools up north that he had the misfortune of falling off of a roof and hurting his back. This injury plagued him all his life. In the summer, Roy farmed and in the winter he worked out doing carpentry. Roy's handy work can be seen around the community. He is the one that formed the curves for the skating surface in the new rink. He married Ellen Haugan in June 1950. They had three children: Lynne (John) Prevost, Lorna (Barry) Hamilton and Myron (Brenda) Holo, all still residing in the Rose Valley area. Roy loved sports like curling, fishing and playing ball. He enjoyed playing cribbage and a good drink of scotch. Roy made his home in Rose Valley. He had a "green thumb" and enjoyed growing a garden. In later years when he couldn't garden, he would check out the neighbour's and commented on how Ragnar had such a nice garden. Due to failing health, Roy moved to Rose Valley Community Spirit Manor in January 2014 for a brief stay but as his health deteriorated he moved to the Kelvindell Lodge where he resided until his passing. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Martin and Matilda; brother Harry Holo; sisters, Myrtle Milne, Esther Forrester, Evelyn, Gladys Hodge; brothers-in law, Alex Milne, Frank Forrester, Dave Hodge and Lyle MacGillvary; and grandsons, Keith and Bryan Hamilton. Roy is survived by his daughters, Lynne (John) Prevost, Lorna (Barry) Hamilton and son Myron (Brenda) Holo; sister Joyce MacGillvray; grandchildren, Curtis (Lynne) Prevost, Kim (Karen) Prevost, Jackie (Shayne) Hood, Kevin (Manuella) Prevost, Greg (Stacey) Prevost, Dennis (Nadine) Prevost, Kelsey Prevost (Chris Staples), Allison Prevost (Dustin MacDonald), Darren (Tanessa) Hamilton, Diane Hamilton, Kimberly Hamilton, Davin Holo (Maegan Nestmen), Jared Holo; 20 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and numerous extended family.
