Sheila Grace McDonald (nee Ferrie) passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026. No tears need to be shed; she lived a full and remarkable 102 years.

Sheila was predeceased by her husband, John Gordon McDonald; her son, Malcolm; and her son-in-law, Mike MacKinnon. She is survived by her daughters, Shelley McDonald and Trudy Fidyk, and her son-in-law, Jeff Fidyk.

Born and raised in Invermay, Sheila’s most formidable years were spent helping her family run the Invermay Hotel. It was there that she learned the importance of making the beds every morning, always doing dishes right away, and ironing everything from bedding to tea towels—lessons she strictly applied throughout her entire life.

After high school, Sheila moved to Winnipeg with plans to become a nurse, but her knees decided otherwise. She later worked at the switchboard at City Hospital in Saskatoon. Ultimately, she returned to Invermay to help her parents, where she married Gordon McDonald and raised her family. Mom and wife were her most important roles she took very seriously. Our entire lives she always worried about us – even as adults she always said “I will always be your Mom”. We always felt her love and support.

Community service was Sheila’s true second occupation. She was a tireless volunteer with the Hospital Auxiliary, Lodge Auxiliary, Hall Committee, Legion, and the United Church Board. In 2015, Sheila was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award, yet she continued volunteering for as long as she was able. Deeply dedicated to Invermay, she fiercely advocated for her town, speaking up against the closures of the hospital lab and the local RBC branch. She took immense pride in her community, firmly believing that everyone needs to do their part to make it thrive.

In her later years, Sheila remained an avid reader, took up putting together jigsaw puzzles (strictly 100 pieces or fewer), and loved listening to music by Jim Nabors, Perry Como, Jim Reeves and Kenny Rogers.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the entire staff of the Invermay Health Centre for their exceptional care, smiles, and patience. Special thanks to her former neighbors, Venetia and Al, who truly became part of the family, and to everyone in the community who worked alongside Sheila or helped her maintain her independent lifestyle for so long. She truly appreciated your kindness.
