Stanislawa Zimroz

June 5, 1912 — October 18, 2016

Stanislawa (Stella) Zimroz was born in Bobulince, Poland, on June 5, 1912, the oldest daughter of four children born to Jan and Victoria Szpak. On October 10, 1932, she married Michal Zimroz. Stella lived in Poland until 1944 when she, along with her husband and son John, were taken to a concentration camp in Germany. They survived the concentration camp and lived in Germany until she immigrated to Canada in 1949 with her husband Michal, son John, and daughter Gladys (born four months prior to leaving for Canada). They settled and farmed near Fosston, Saskatchewan.
Stella and her husband lived on a farm west of Fosston where they made their life together on the Zimroz farm. Stella expressed the importance of strong faith, hard work and family, and together with her husband of 53 years, they passed these beliefs to their children. Attending mass every Sunday and prayer were very important in her life and she prayed the rosary daily for the health and well-being of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Stella loved gardening and she always grew a large garden enough to supply the whole family with fresh vegetables for the whole year. Milking cows and raising chickens were a must and she was very generous in sharing these products with her family. She also made many bags of perogies for her family over the years.
She appreciated nature and the outdoors to the fullest, and spent many days out in the field with her husband picking roots and stooking bundles in the field for the first few years when they moved to Canada.
In her later years, she enjoyed watching her favourite TV shows, which were the News and The Price Is Right.
Stella was blessed with nine grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Her close ties with her family was very evident, and she remembered all of them by name until the last few years of her life. She was very close to her only daughter, Gladys, and lived with her the past two years in Okotoks, Alberta, until her passing.
Stella was predeceased by her husband, Michal in 1985; three sons, Jaszo, Jozef and John; daughter Helena; granddaughter Marlene Zimroz; great-granddaughter Faith Holowatuk.
She is survived by her daughter, Gladys (Tom) Gutek; brother Ludwig Szpak; daughter-in-law Doreen; four grandsons, Edward (Debbie) Zimroz, Jonathan, Jacob, Joel, Isaac; Michael (Karen) Zimroz, Michala, Madisson, Ethan; Richard (Lea) Zimroz, Matthew, Joshua, Nicholas, Noah; Greg (Tracy) Gutek, Noah, Luke, Jack, Ben; four granddaughters, Veronica (Ron) Holowatuk, Thomas, Michael, Grace, Sarah, Jacob; Theresa (Glen) Evans, Sarah, Aerial, Mackenzie, Cassidy; Marcia (Pat) Chotowetz, Rayna, Samuel, Kate; Jacky (Greg) Hunt, Jeremy, Danielle, Taylor, Jason.
She was a devout parishioner of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fosston. Her lifelong devotion to prayer, church, family and friends has taken her to a new place with the Lord.
