Vera was born on the family farm south of Okla on October 25, 1925, to Vine and Martha Ashdown. She attended Silver Springs School until grade 8.
On March 11, 1942, Vera married Roy Bashforth and they lived in various places while Roy was in the Air Force. When the war was over, they moved onto the Bashforth family farm at Okla. They were blessed with ten children and spent time with their growing family.
Looking after her large family was what brought purpose to her days. She found herself in the kitchen, in the garden and in the laundry room. The majority of her time while raising her children was spent in the kitchen with no running water! She found lots of pleasure in berry-picking picnics and in her later years in her flower beds and fruit trees.
In 1980, Roy and Vera left the family farm and relocated to an acreage close by, where they renovated the house and developed a lovely yard. This is where they raised their many grandchildren. Vera lived there until she became ill and had to permanently move to the Preeceville Long-Term Care.
She was predeceased by her parents; her 11 siblings; her husband Roy; sons, Dwight and Gerald; and grandson Justin.
She is survived by her eight children, Wayne (Marlene), Gary (Valerie), Brian, Dale (Kathy), Kelly (Karen), Brenda (Gordon), Bonnie (Wes) and Bruce; daughters-in-law, Lorraine and Elaine; 23 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren
