In Loving Memory of
Vincent Gyorfi
Please join the family virtually for the graveside memorial service on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at 3:00 p.m.
With much sadness, we announce the passing of our Dad and Grandad, 93 years of age at the Silver Heights Nursing Home in Raymore, SK.
Vincent Andrew Gyorfi (Jr.) was born on August 22, 1927 in Arbury, SK to Vincent Andrew Gyorfi (Sr.) and Anna Gyorfi (Kaytor), the tenth of fifteen children. Vince was predeceased by his parents, wife Vera Gyorfi (Morrow) and son-in-law Darold Mooney. He is survived by his children: Doug Gyorfi (Heather), Dick Gyorfi (Pam Gotto), Patti Haithwaite (Barry), Dianne Mooney (Keith Jackson) and Carolyn Young (Richard), fifteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Vince and Vera were married on July 20, 1951. They farmed in the Copeland area for many years, where Vince had built the house and barn. While still on the farm, he also worked at John Deere in Raymore. In 1970, the family moved to Raymore where Vince went into business running the Midtown Motors garage until he retired.
Vince had many talents: farming, carpentry, mechanic and welding. Many neighbours were subjected to his hammering during early morning hours while he worked on his hip-roofed sheds. Vince enjoyed making wooden toys and clocks out of scrap lumber and wind mills out of recycled metal. He was fond of music (played the harmonica) and strains of Wilf Carter and Stompin Tom Connors were regulars from his man cave. As a young man he enjoyed dancing at the Copeland Hall gatherings. Vince liked collecting items: watches, lighters, coins, die-cast farm machinery toys and antiques.
Growing up in the dirty thirties shaped his ability to save money, developed penchant for thriftiness and a strong work ethic that he passed on to his family.
He will be missed.
