Allan was born on May 27, 1928 to Ester and Olaf Kvemshagen on the family farm near Preeceville, Saskatchewan.  He attended high school and a year of Bible Study at LCBI in Outlook.  During his time there he was blessed with many life long friendships visiting with some as recently as last week.

Allan attended Teachers College in Saskatoon, and began his teaching career in Rose Valley, Saskatchewan where he was principal for many years.  His passion for education was evident and the relationships he built with his students lasted his lifetime with many reaching out to express their gratitude for all he has done for them.  He finished off his 33 year teaching career in Theodore, Saskatchewan.

It was during his time in Rose Valley that he met and fell in love with his soul mate, Shirley Engemoen.   Shirley and Allan were married July 2, 1960 and had three amazing children; Karen, Ken and Karel.  They built a strong foundation of love that carried them through a wonderful 58 years.

Allan was an active member in every community in which he resided.  He had a passion for sports – coaching countless hockey teams and high school fastball.  He treasured his memories of the times spent coaching and spent his final days happily reminiscing about them all.

Allan had a passion for music, horses and time spent with family.  He could tell a story better than anyone, and always had a captive audience when his stories began.  As his family toured the circuit, so to speak, he spent his time behind the microphone announcing gymkhana as well as Chariot and Chuckwagon races. Boy was he good behind the mic!

He loved his Lord and was always a devoted member of a church congregation whether it was at Zion in Rose Valley, St. John’s in Preeceville, St. John’s in Warman, Holy Cross or, his final stop, Trinity Lutheran in Saskatoon.  He spent much of his time directing and singing, guiding others on their journey to Christ through music.  He could harmonize better than anyone, and was the most alive with a guitar in his hand or a keyboard nearby.

Allan passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at 90 years of age.  He will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his wife of 58 years, Shirley; his children Karen (Delmar) DeCorby, Ken (Sandra) Kvemshagen and Karel (Glenn) Larson; his grandchildren Kristin (Tynan), Riley, Kayla, Kevin (Stephanie), Logan, and Kendra (Buddy); and his great grandchildren Bennett, Sawyer and Elliot.

Allan was welcomed home on June 22, 2018 by his loving Savior, his Mom and Dad, his brother Edgar and his infant twin brothers.

The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the nursing staff at City Hospital’s 3rd Floor.  Thank you for the compassion and caring you showed to Allan in his final days.  Your impact is beyond measure.
