Anna Prince was born in the Ukraine to Wasyl and Anastasia Pawluk on November 15, 1927. The family moved to Canada in 1928 and settled in the Kuroki, SK area. Her parents modelled and instilled in her the values of kindness, hard work and growing one’s own food. Anna attended the little red brick school in Kuroki and when she was 16 years of age, went to work in Toronto, ON at the Parker Pen Company. In the fall of 1945, Anna returned to Kuroki and on November 13, 1945 married John (Jack) William Prince. The couple eventually took up farming in the Kuroki district and were blessed with four children: Shirley, Betty, Jim and Judy.

Anna always had a large garden and was Jack’s right hand helper on the farm. She worked hard and enjoyed cooking and baking and often volunteered at the Kuroki Community Club. She was one of the founding members of the Farmer’s Market and was especially known for her baked goods. Anna was also a founding member of Toastmaster’s and attended for 25 years.  In addition, Anna served on the Pool committee in Kuroki, on the Executive of the Legion and was president of the Ladies Auxiliary from 2001 to 2003 and again in 2006 and 2007. She was on a committee entrusted with compiling the Kuroki History Book from 1892 to 1980. Anna played both the guitar and accordion and sang with a musical group called “The Sowers” and, as time permitted, with Kuroki Ladies who shared their music and cheer at Wadena Lodges. Anna also enjoyed visiting with friends and helping at the Kuroki Drop Inn Centre.

Anna had a life-long love of learning and took many community classes. Painting quickly became her passion and her artwork is displayed in family homes. Anna was always busy with something and her children often referred to her as “the energizer bunny”. But it was giving and kindness that were the hallmark traits for Anna and she took special joy in helping others and has been a blessing to many. Anna enjoyed going to church and to Bible studies and over the years attended Kuroki Baptist Church, Kuroki New Life Community Church and Wadena Baptist Church. Her personal faith in God sustained her and she readily acknowledged His saving grace, unfailing love and goodness to her. Her life was characterized by service, gratitude and an appreciation for the simple things in life. She will be remembered and cherished as a loving lady with a big heart and will be greatly missed.

Anna was predeceased by her parents Wasyl and Anastasia; brothers Wasyl and George; sister Marie; and Husband, Jack. She is survived by her brother, Pete.

Left to mourn her passing and celebrate Anna’s life are her children Shirley (Gordon), Betty (George), Jim (Loren) and Judy; grandchildren Jennifer (Duane), Crystal, Brandy (Dallis), Chantelle, Alexandria (Aaron), Victoria, MacKenzie and Kaelen; great grandchildren Parker, Calla, Kaia, Luke; brother Pete; special and dear friend, George Bratushesky as well as many relatives, cherished neighbors and friends.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the wonderful residents, staff and home care staff at Weneeda Park Lodge and the excellent care of Dr. Rahoum and staff at Wadena Hospital. Anna often referred to you as angels in her life and very much appreciated your friendship and care for her.
