Beverly Bzdel-Kitzul

January 31, 1954 — April 25, 2022

Beverly Eleanor Bzdel-Kitzul was born in Lestock, Saskatchewan on January 31st, 1954 to Tom and Stella Bzdel. She was the first of four daughters. According to her Dad she was a ‘cute little thing.’ Beverly attended Wishart School and only spoke Ukrainian when she began. She was a good student, shy and quiet yet involved in countless activities including 4H, volleyball and basketball. Living on the farm and being the eldest child meant lots of responsibilities looking after her sisters and helping with farm chores.

Beverly graduated in June of 1972. She moved to Regina and attended Marvel Beauty School where she completed her Beauticians course in December of 1973. She then moved to Edmonton to pursue her career in 1975.

On May 7th, 1984 she had her daughter Stefanie Anne; whom Beverly believed changed her life forever for the good. They continued to live in Edmonton until June of 1987 when Bev’s father, Tom convinced her to move back home to the farm in Wishart.

On July 13th, 1991 she married the love of her life, Alvin Kitzul, and moved to their current home on the farm near Bankend where they raised Stefanie and farmed until April of 2020.

Beverly continued to work as a hairdresser in Wynyard and salon owner in Wishart from 1987 to just recent, spanning a career of 49 years. Her last few haircuts were for her grandkids, her husband and her beloved Mom.

Beverly worked hard at everything she did. She enjoyed gardening, canning, specifically pickling, cooking meals, baking muffins for her grandkids and decorating her home. Bev could cook for an army and showed her love through food always serving an impressive meal to family and friends. She was famous for her sour leaf cabbage rolls, Japanese salad, ham roll-ups, pickled cabbage, and her homemade salad dressing.

Beverly was a pillar of her community volunteering and helping everywhere she was needed. A born leader, Beverly had impeccable organizational skills and was often in charge of running an event. She was involved in many community organizations such as Wishart Hopak Dancers, St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Bankend Community Hall, Bankend Co-op, and her main passion the Royal Canadian Legion Wishart Branch #305. Beverly held many positions in Wishart Legion Branch for many years but her highest honour was being named Royal Canadian Legion Deputy Zone Commander for central Saskatchewan.

While Beverly had many interests her absolute number one love was her family. She was blessed with three grandchildren; Austin Douglas Thomas in 2007, Gabrielle Ellanne Belle in 2011 and Hannah Everley Anne (named after her Baba Beverly) in 2012. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her grandkids doing anything, anywhere. She was a devoted Baba and attended many school functions and sports games. She never missed a first day of school and never missed a birthday, often making creative themed birthday cakes for the special day. Family meant everything to her and she spent much of her spare time with her parents, sisters and extended family celebrating life and living it to the fullest.

Beverly loved the lake and it became her annual summer vacation with her family from the early 90’s to present day. Stef, Doug, and the kids planned their vacation times along with Beverly and Alvin often spending two weeks as a family relaxing, fishing, boating, going for walks, going to the beach, sitting around the fire and spending quality time together making precious memories.

If you ask anyone who knew Bev how they would describe her they would say she was incredibly hard working, loving, caring, strong, strong willed, a perfectionist, very stylish, had a devilish sense of humour and full of life and a bundle of endless energy.

Beverly will forever be remembered and loved by Alvin her beloved husband of 30 years, her daughter Stefanie (Doug), her grandchildren Austin, Gabrielle and Hannah her beloved mother Stella Bzdel, sisters Janet (Gerald) Mydan, Lana (Carl) Flis, Marcy (Darcy) Stefankiw her nephews and nieces Steven (Melissa) Stefankiw , Cally (Devin) Severson, Brodie (Kaitlyn) Flis, Zachary Flis, sister in law Pat Fensom, niece Tracey (Curtis) Stechyshyn and  her nephew Brett Fensom.

Beverly is predeceased by her father Tom Bzdel, maternal grandparents Harry & Anastasia Lysyk, paternal grandparents Nicola & Ksenka Bzdel, and brother in law Harold Fensom.

Just like how she lived, Beverly fought hard and showed unwavering strength right up until she left for heaven. Her family will forever be missing a piece of their hearts and the light in their life.
