In Loving Memory of

Darlene Burseth

Darlene Eileen (Bohl) Burseth was born to Fred and Emily (Tretiak) Bohl on July 23, 1948 in Wadena, SK.

Darlene was the second oldest of four children. She was raised on the family farm just north of Margo. As a young girl, she helped on the family farm and babysat the neighborhood children. She enjoyed playing ball and went to school in Margo.

In her mid-teens Darlene met George Burseth, from Invermay, SK.  George and Darlene married on August 18, 1967. From 1967 to 1972 they lived in Thompson, MB where Darlene was a waitress and George worked at the mine. While in Thompson, they met numerous people who become life-long friends who Darlene kept in touch with until her final day. George and Darlene then bought a farm 3 ½ miles south of Lintlaw, SK. On July 16, 1972 their son, Brent, was born and on August 14, 1975 their daughter, Brenda, was born. George and Darlene were small cattle and grain farmers. Darlene worked hard on their farm when the children were young because George worked away as well. Darlene also worked with her sister Adeline at Peterson’s Auction Market running the kitchen. Their fresh, home cooked meals were well known! Their portable wooden display of pies would go full and come back empty each week. In 1987 Darlene started working as a cook at the Kelvindell Lodge. The lodge girls were a fun bunch! She worked there until 2002 when her knees gave her problems. Darlene worked HARD - full-time at the lodge, still farming and raising the kids.

George and Darlene had a big yard that was filled with flowers, a vegetable garden and fruit trees. She always made sure those fruits and vegetables were processed and stored for winter. Varieties of animals and birds were also a part of the family farm.  She ran with the kids in multiple activities: 4-H, hockey skating, etc. She always helped where she could with those activities; baking for fundraisers, working Bingo, managing a hockey team, 4-H Show Day making sure that their Charolais were clean with their fluffy tail. Amid her busyness, she still had time for extended family and friends. Time for curling, Canasta, and dances. And every now and then, she would bring out her accordion and play a few songs. George and Darlene separated in 2003 but were able to settle their indifferences and become companions as seniors and continue to enjoy their family and friends together. Darlene was also George’s caregiver after some health issues.

You never left Darlene’s house hungry OR thirsty. If she knew you were coming there was a feast prepared. If you popped in unexpectedly, she quickly put something together. Her goodie packages of treats were readily available to take home with you.

When her grandchildren were born, she became “Baba”. She snuggled them as babies and was at their side as she watched them grow. She attended their activities, spent time cooking, baking, gardening, playing cards/board games with them and teaching them along the way. She made sure there was time for a movie and a snuggle. There was always room on the arm of Baba’s chair for someone to sit as her arm held on tight. She was always the ear to listen or the shoulder to cry on for all her family. Their biggest fan, the one who encouraged them to keep going! She was PROUD of all of them! Her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. You didn’t need to be blood family to call her Mom/Baba and be loved by her!

As Darlene’s mobility decreased, she continued to keep in touch with so many people. Her phone book was always close. If you needed to know a date or name, you called Mom.  Her mind was sharp!

She never wanted to be a burden but needed to ask for some help this last while. She greatly appreciated any help that was given. She didn’t want to be in a Care Home, Assisted Living or anything like that. She passed away peacefully, exactly the way she wanted to.

“I love you” at the end of every phone call and an extra squeeze in her hug at every goodbye. She lived a simple life, didn’t ask for anything other than to be loved.

Darlene was predeceased by her parents Fred and Emily, mother and father in-law Clifford and Ivy, sister Adeline and many extended family and friends.

Darlene will be sadly and greatly missed by her daughter Brenda (Dean) Lomenda; son Brent Burseth; five grandchildren: Brooke and Brianna Burseth and Ethan, Emily and Mallory Lomenda; brothers Roger and Marl (Shirley); nieces; nephews; cousins; ex-hubby George; extended family and anyone who had the opportunity to know this loving lady.

Taken too early! You had so much to still teach all of us! You taught us how to LOVE unconditionally and selflessly! God will welcome you with open and loving arms! Rest peacefully as you join your loved ones and Baby Dog who went before you.
✨You will be our guardian angel and keep us safe. ✨
Goodbye Mom/Baba, until we see each other again! We ❤️ you!
