Doreen Zimroz

January 30, 1945 — October 19, 2022

Doreen was born January 30, 1945.  She was the youngest of five daughters born to Guy and Mary Doan.  Because she was so much younger than her siblings, 15-26 years, she grew up with her nieces, nephews, and cousins in the Farmingdale area.

She went to school for grades one to two at Farmingdale and in 1953 her family moved to Kelvington, where she finished her schooling.  In these early years, she volunteered with CGIT, was a brownie leader, taught Sunday school and worked at the Kelvington Cafe.

Growing up she spent a lot of time visiting family, friends, and going to dance parties.  It was at a barn dance in 1959 that she met the love of her life, John Zimroz.  Five years later they were married.  In the early years, living the close quarters shared with her in-laws, they raised four kids.  She learned to navigate a language barrier and a totally different lifestyle.  They moved into their own home once their last child was born.

Together they were blessed with a total of six children but sadly their daughter Marlene died shortly after birth.  Her family then expanded to 19 grand children and five great grand children.  Faith was always so important in the raising of her family, never was a sacramental celebration missed.  Family was her pride and joy.

She spent a large part of her life living and working on the family farm.  She loved gardening, cooking, volunteering at church, watching her children grow, and enjoying her grandchildren.  Doreen and John loved the farm, visiting friends, travelling to see family and attending community events.  Music and dancing were always a favorite.

In 2013, sadly she had to say goodbye to John and she eventually moved off the farm in 2016.

Later in life she found companionship with her friend Dave.  As two widows, they travelled and learned to continue enjoying life.

Like many of our loved ones, Covid had a very negative effect on her.  Sadly after a very bad fall, she had to move into the Wynyard Nursing Home one day before all of the Covid protocols were imposed.  Subsequently, to be closer to family, she moved to the Kelvindell lodge.  These restrictions made her moves difficult and disheartening.

Throughout her entire life she loved visiting and receiving visitors.  She always had the coffee on and  sweets ready for anyone who dropped by.  She always lit up whenever a guest appeared on her doorstep or when she was going out.

She will be greatly missed by everyone who loved her.

Doreen is lovingly remembered by her five children: Edward (Debora) and their children Jonathan, Jacob, Joel, and Isaac; Michael and his children Michala, Madison, and Ethan; Richard (Lea) and their children Matthew, Joshua, Nicholas, and Noah; Theresa (Glen) Evans and their children Sarah (Tyrell) and family John, Stella, and Evan, Ariel (Reagan) and son Nash, Mackenzie, and Cassidy (Pat) and daughter Nyla; and Jacky (Greg) Hunt and their children Jeremy, Danielle (Brody), Taylor, and Jason; her sister and brother-in-law  Gladys (Tom) Gutek; Special Friend Dave Nordick; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, other relatives and countless friends.

She is predeceased by her husband John; her daughter  Marlene; her parents:  Guy and Mary Doan; her parents-in-law  Michael and Stella Zimroz; and her sisters/brothers-in-law  Maureen (Wilfred), Stella (Art), Blanche (Gordon), and Georgina (Elwood).
