Irene Rumbold

October 18, 1948 — April 25, 2022

It is with deep sorrow that the family of Irene Rumbold (Steininger) announce her passing on Monday, April 25, 2022 at 73 years of age.

Irene was born to Leo and Rolanda Martel in the Qu’Appelle Valley North of Rocanville, SK of October 18, 1948.  The family later moved to Redvers, SK, where she attended school. Irene then went to Regina to enter the workforce.  It was there where she met Ron Steininger.  They were married in 1969, and had two boys, Trevor in November of 1969, and Jason in September of 1971.

The family moved to British Columbia for a few years, then ended up returning to Saskatchewan to the family farm in the summer of 1976.  Irene and Ron remained on the farm while raising their sons together.  In the early 1990’s, Irene and Ron ended their marriage.  At that time, Irene decided to return to school to obtain her GED, and then went on to become a Care Aide.  She truly shone in this profession of caring for others.

Irene was a proud member of AA.  It was through her time attending AA functions where she met Eddie Rumbold.  Irene and Eddie wed in February of 2000 and lived on their farm North of Kuroki.  Irene continued her passion for helping others through her work as a Home Health Aide for Wadena Home Care.  Her and Eddie really enjoyed their time together meeting new friends and travelling around to various AA roundups throughout the prairie provinces.  They were truly grateful to be part of such an inclusive group.

Irene will forever be remembered and loved by her husband Eddie, her son Jason (Kerrie) Steininger, and their daughters Kamryn and Reese, Daughter-in-law Rhonda Kapell, her daughters Harley (Blake) & family, Brooke (Logan) and Ashley, Brothers Elie (Jenny) Martel, Henry (Caroline) Martel, sisters Janette (Pat) Martel, Jeaninne Martel, Brother-in-law Thor Espe.  Also mourning her are Eddie’s children Pam (Lloyd) Forseth, Monte (Andra) Rumbold, Roley (Megan) Rumbold, and Josh (Joanna) Rumbold, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and cousins.  Irene was pre-deceased by her parents Leo and Rolanda Martel, sister Cecile Espe, son Trevor Steininger, grandson Justin Wolfe, nephew Jeff Martel, and niece Tara Geisbrecht.

Irene’s wishes were to be cremated.  A celebration of life and graveside service will be held in the Qu’Appelle Valley at St. Josephs Riverside Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations of support can be made to the Yorkton & District Nursing Home, The Alzheimer’s Association, or Alcoholics Anonymous.
