In Loving Memory of

Joan Hagenes

A private funeral service will be held.

Joan Hagenes was born in Crooked River, SK to L. Roy Morgan (from Treherne, MB) and Florence Nightingale (from Okla, SK), the second of eight children.

Joan married Clarence Hagenes on May 17, 1963. Clarence’s job made it that they moved from place to place with the work. Their home base though, was always Archerwill, SK, on the farm.

Joan knew the importance of hard work. Since Clarence’s job took him away from the farm during the week, operating the farm was left to Joan and the kids. She always grew a large garden, butchered chickens, and helped with the cattle and pigs. At this time, bales were small and square, and it took many loads to get them all home. Joan and Clarence had six children but sadly, one died in infancy. The children were raised on the farm and followed their mother’s example of hard work.

When Clarence’s job took him to Melfort they made the move there. City life was not a favorite for Joan; her favorite place to be, was home, on the farm.

Joan remained on the farm after Clarence’s death in 2003. Living on the farm was something that Joan did not want to give up. Unfortunately, failing health forced Joan to move to Rose Valley Manor. This was a hard adjustment for Joan to make but she knew it was the best place for her to be.

Covid hitting was the beginning of the end for Joan. Restrictions that had to be put in place to keep her and others healthy also kept her interactions with her family done through the window. This was a difficult time for Joan and again her health deteriorated. Following an extended hospital stay, Joan was moved briefly to Preeceville Long Term Care Home. She was a long way from home but made the best of the situation. When a room became available at Pleasantview Care Home in Wadena she didn’t hesitate to make yet another move.

This move brought her closer to home and to people she knew. Throughout all these moves Joan’s health continued to weaken. At the time of her passing she was in St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon.

Joan was predeceased by her husband Clarence; son Oran; grandson Cole Black; parents Roy and Florence Morgan; in-laws Karl Hagenes, Katie and George Eberle; brother Wes Morgan; sisters Del Schuerman and Lee Pallog; and brothers-in-law Sigvald Hagenes, Lloyd Schuerman, Bill Humalowich and Ron Hamilton. Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren: Cindy and Tim Friesen, Tye and Chelsea Hagenes, Kota, Oran, Kael, Ethan Hagenes and Isabel Deforest; Todd and Sandra Hagenes, Jake, Masyn, Taylor Hagenes and Will Surch; Jody Hagenes, Clarissa, Jody Jr. and Alexia; Trixie Black, Baylee Black and Tyson Caldwell, Rylee and Hayden Black; Oralee and Brian Pugh, Culley Hagenes, Carson, Payton and Otis Pugh; brothers Albert (Connie) Morgan and Miles Morgan; sisters Jannette Hamilton, Carrie Morgan and Dave Osachuk as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
