Nellie Dergousoff

May 4, 1938 — April 24, 2022

Preeceville

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Nellie Alice Lavaden Dergousoff on April 24, 2022, at the age of 83.

Nellie was born on May 4th, 1938, to Fred and Bertha Hagemeister in Preeceville, SK.  She attended Waler Country School until grade 8.  Following, she helped her mother on the farm.  When she was 21 yrs old, she went West to Calgary and took a hairdressing course and worked at an optical place while living with her Auntie and Uncle.  At 22 years old, she applied to an ad in the Western Producer to be a housekeeper in Carberry, Manitoba.  She ended up staying one year, and then decided to move back home to Preeceville. In 1959, Nellie met Alex at a dance in Hazel Dell.  They were married in 1963 and lived in Buchanan on the family farm for a few years.  Then in 1969, Alex and Nellie moved to the Hagemeister homestead near Preeceville, SK.  They had two daughters, Ronnell, born in 1969, and April born in 1972.

Nellie was a very hard worker.  She was a dedicated farmwife that helped her husband Alex on the farm with planting the crop and looking after their livestock and chickens.  Nellie loved working with her horses, gardening, yard work, picking berries and making homemade jam.  She was known for her fresh homemade bread and buns.

Nellie enjoyed participating in various groups.  She was a Leader in the 4-H Chapter in Buchanan and was an active member in the church.  Nellie and Alex were also avid curlers, that enjoyed both the competitive and social aspects of the game.  Nellie’s door was always open for who ever wanted to drop by.  Visits with friends, family, and neighbours usually entailed a cup of tea, some fresh bread or buns, and before you left, Nellie was sending you home with vegetables from her garden or some of her delicious homemade jams and jellies—she just loved to give and share the fruits of her labour with others.

Nellie is survived by her husband, Alex Dergousoff, her daughters Ronnell Latham and April Makowsky (Andrian), her grandchildren Alixandrea Clark (Neil), Larissa Makowsky, Mathew Makowsky, Jordan Makowsky, Great Grandchild Reid Clark, and her brother Eugene Hagemeister.  She is pre-deceased by her parents, Fred and Bertha Hagemeister and her brothers Frank, Tommy, and Wendell Hagemeister.

Nellie’s wishes were to have no service following her passing.  She preferred to have her life celebrated along side her husband Alex when that time should come.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked donations be made to the Long Term Care Auxiliary in Preeceville.
