In Loving Memory of

Raymond "Emil" Rudniski

A graveside service for the family and friends of Raymond "Emil" Rudniski will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help - Wishart Roman Catholic Cemetery on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.

Lunch will follow at the Wishart Hall.

Raymond “Emil” Rudniski was born on Feb 20, 1930 on a farm west of Wynyard.  He was the second of five children born to John and Josephine (Chaban) Rudniski.

Emil attended Round Hills school from grade 1 to 6, Larissa school from grade 7 to 9 and completed grade 10 by correspondence. Growing up he liked to play hockey on the slough, softball and enjoyed playing first base and back catcher for the Round Hill Rockets.  From a young age he loved horses – horseback riding, driving teams, participating in rodeos and training horses (one which was trained as a trick horse).  Later on he shared his love of horses with his children and grandchildren and rode horseback until age of 80.

When Emil was about 20 years old he went to work for Ontario Pulp & Paper Company and Edmonton oil fields for a couple of winters.  Interested in ranching he moved to Alberta and worked at Turner Valley Ranch for a few years.  Emil’s Dad was injured in a farming accident so he returned home to the family farm and began farming full time.

On July 10, 1965 he married Sophie Salapak and they had two children.  Emil and Sophie built a life together on the farm raising cattle, horses, pigs and chickens, milking cows, grain farming and gardening.

Their door was always open for a visit and there was delicious food and fun conversation for anyone who happened to stop by.

Emil was active in the community being involved as RM Councilor for 21 years, on the Credit Union board and Golden Acres board.

Emil and Sophie’s four grandchildren were their pride and joy!  They made every effort to attend the school concerts, 4-H, music recitals and sporting events.  More recently they were overjoyed to hold their first great granddaughter!

Emil will be remembered for visiting, telling stories and jokes (his one liners), playing cards, going on wagon treks and parades.  At many events and occasions and in many different communities Emil gave wagon/sleigh rides for children and people of all ages.

Emil was able to stay at home as long as he could with the care of his son, Randy.  When Emil’s health and mobility declined he moved to Golden Acres Nursing home in Wynyard to join his wife, Sophie, and brother, Eddie for the last few months until his passing.

Emil is survived by his wife Sophie of 54 years, son Randy; daughter Sandra (Perry); grandchildren Alyssa (Tony), Kelsey (Andrew), Jordan (Laura), Brayden and great granddaughter Morwen. He is also survived by brothers Eddie, Con (Rita) and Vern (Doreen); sister Eleanor Bohachik; sisters-in-law Emily Popik, Pauline Wolitski and Mary Woitas; brother-in-law Myron Salapak and many nephews and nieces.
