Tegwen Orthner went to be with her Saviour on Friday, April 26, 2019 with family by her side.  She was greeted in heaven by her husband Julius, son Lloyd, daughter Myrna and granddaughter Leanne.

Tegwen was born in Wales on September 19, 1925 to John and Martha Meddins. The family immigrated to Canada in 1926 and settled on a farm east of Young.  After completing Grade 12, Tegwen attended Normal School in Saskatoon. She taught in the one-room school house at Kutawagan (northeast of Nokomis), Blytheswood (southwest of Raymore), and Lewiswyn (north of Raymore). While at Blytheswood School, a young farmer caught her eye. Julius and Tegwen were married on October 5, 1949 and farmed together on the family farm.  Tegwen was always busy with her garden, milking cows, raising chickens, baking, cooking, sewing and helping Julius whenever and wherever needed. They moved to Raymore in December 1981 but still loved to go back to the farm. Tegwen loved to garden all her life and even in Raymore, she had a big garden and loved to share the vegetables with the residents in Eastview Lodge.

The teacher was always a part of Tegwen as she ensured her children always had their homework done including their Sunday School lessons. Tegwen accepted Christ as her Saviour during the time she was teaching at Blytheswood.  Being active in the church was very important to her.  She taught Sunday School at Raymore Baptist Church for many years. Over the years during the winter months, Tegwen would be making a quilt or sewing layettes, blankets and rolling bandages to send to hospitals in Cameroon. Tegwen also enjoyed serving in the community – she was on the Raymore Coop Board for many years, Home and School, Raymore Curling Club and the Auxiliary at Silver Heights Special Care Home to name a few. When there were special activities in the community, you would often see Tegwen and Julius involved.

Tegwen’s involvement became limited after her stroke in the fall of 2006 but she would do what she could. Tegwen and Julius moved to Regina in June 2011 and lived in College Park Retirement Residence until they both moved to Silver Heights in early 2015.

Tegwen was predeceased by husband Julius (2015); son Lloyd (2006); daughter Myrna (2017); granddaughter Leanne (1996), her parents and siblings: Ivor, Trevor, Dilys, Bert and Dennis.

She is survived by son Gary (Gail) and children Michael (Marusha), Olivia and Zoe; Angela and Kevin; daughter Kathy (Larry Wilson); daughter-in-law Lynn (Jim Schmidt) and children, Jennifer (Ryan), Jaden, Erin and Cohen; Lauren (Derrick), Brock, Charlie and Dylan; Julie (Mark), India and Gigi; son-in-law Rick Harden and children, Paul (Eva), Jude, Oliver and Elliott; Heather (Arif), and Zander. She is also survived by sister Gwen (Joe Stockinger); sisters-in-law Evelyn Orthner and Olga Meddins; brother-in-law Roland Flathman; and many nieces and nephews.
