Rett Syndrome

Have you heard of Rett syndrome? Rett syndrome is a rare, non-inherited genetic neurological disorder that occurs almost exclusively in girls and leads to severe impairments, affecting nearly every aspect of the child’s life: their ability to speak, walk, eat, and even breathe easily. It is caused by a mutation of the MecP2 gene on the X chromosome. You can read more here: Saskatchewan Rett Syndrome Association (saskrett.com)

Isla Janzen is a beautiful little girl in our Saskatoon community who lives daily with this condition. Isla will benefit from the use of a new eye gaze device, which she will have access to through her school, but in order to use this device she requires a special arm attachment for her wheelchair. Tompkins Funeral Home is pleased to be able to donate a portion of the cost for this arm. Once Isla gets this, she will be able to talk when she is out and about! Imagine how much this will open up her world!
